Only in America. Rnachers and ranch hands detroy rain gauges and weather equipment. To stop climate change by stopping the measurement in a part of Colorado? No, to create a fake drought.

The Sun pieced together the long story of the fraud and its aftermath from court filings, interviews with attorneys and weather officials, and watchdog accounts of profligate crop subsidy programs. Attorneys for the farmers said their clients didn’t want to talk about the case.

Elsewhere: what GOP after trump?
Batshit crazy Republicans win lots of general elections at the local and state level. Some of them have been elected to Congress multiple times. I suspect there are plenty of ready-made Trump wannabes who win the GOP primaries for POTUS with a different style from Trump but just as much effectiveness. It might get messy, but the MAGAts would settle on a new cult hero soon enough.

Re: Republicans: continued
Republicans think they're onto a winner with racist smears against immigrants. It doesn't matter whether the immigrants are in the US legally or not, as far as the Republicans are concerned they're all 'illegals.' Latest false outrage is Haitians stealing pets and snatching waterfowl to eat. Started with a Facebook post about a neighbor's daughter's friend who lost a pet, which was blamed on Haitian refugees. Republican noisemakers have taken it up in a chorus of bigotry.
'No, Migrants Are Not Eating People’s Cats in Ohio'
'No, Migrants Are Not Eating People’s Cats in Ohio'
Those in the chorus included Republican 'thought leaders' like Jim Jordan, Ted Cruz, and J D Vance. Vance acknowledged that the story might be false, but encouraged 'patriots' to continue spreading it.Conservatives have leveled plenty of ridiculous accusations against migrant communities. Donald Trump accused them of “poisoning the blood” of the nation. Tucker Carlson said they make the country “poorer, and dirtier, and more divided.” The Republican Party has largely adopted the racist great replacement conspiracy theory, and made a mythical “migrant crime wave” a central election issue. As if we needed more proof that right-wingers will do anything to malign migrants, they are now accusing immigrant communities of killing and eating beloved family pets.
On Monday, social media was flooded with posts from prominent conservative lawmakers and commentators claiming Haitian migrants in the town of Springfield, Ohio, were brutalizing and consuming local cats and ducks.
The viral allegation is baseless, and the Springfield Police Division told the Springfield News-Sun on Monday that they have received no reports of pets being stolen and eaten.
Springfield is a relatively small town northeast of Dayton. The city had fallen into a period of sustained economic hardship in the aftermath of the Great Recession, leading to population decline and the exit of major businesses and retailers from the area. In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, a swell in manufacturing and warehouse work attracted a wave of about 20,000 Haitian migrants to the area. Contrary to viral claims from conservatives, they are not undocumented, and by and large have legal immigration status, work authorizations, and Social Security numbers.
“Don’t let the crybabies in the media dissuade you, fellow patriots. Keep the cat memes flowing,” Mr. Vance said, referencing a particularly gruesome false claim that came from a viral social media post.

National survey of “Swifties” indicates her endorsement would cause voters of both parties to switch their vote

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 21, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new, national QuestionPro survey of 925 self-identified Taylor Swift fans (Swifties) who are registered voters finds that her endorsement of either presidential candidate would cause a substantial percentage of her fans to change their vote. Depending on who she endorses, and where her fans reside, it could be enough to sway the national election.

Maybe the immigrants suggest to some Americans that they've failed to develop a competitive culture. Maybe they feel that there's just not a lot to recommend adding a bit of the Southern Baptist, a boring Methodist, or a wild-eyed Evangelical to today's pot. They'll just spoil the whole batch...
Imagine that. I guess it's only coincidental that you'd already be the perfect citizen in the ideal world you're selling.

Because wages are paid in the US dollar which does not deserve to be the reference currency.
Our Monitor for July shows that the dollar is 16.9% overvalued. That figure is based on all currencies adjusting simultaneously to move the world to balance. (If the U.S. dollar had to move on its own to put the U.S. into trade balance, the adjustment needed would likely be on the order of 25%.)1 July 2024

What is the most overvalued currency in the world?
Dollar overvaluation has moderated slightly since last December, but the greenback remains the most overvalued major currency, at 15.8% above equilibrium value. Japanese yen continues hugely undervalued, at 43.7%.1 Apr 2024
