Also, given that it is more likely that Black and Latino households are renters than their white counterparts, the inequalities that each of these populations face economically surface yet again in a lack of affordable housing. In fact, NLIHC’s data shows that Black households specifically are more than three times as likely as white households to be extremely low-income renters and Latino households are more than twice as likely as white households to be extremely low-income renters. Black and Latino populations each experience cost-burden and severe cost-burden at higher rates than other populations.

It’s not a stretch then to suppose the impact of immigration on housing costs will be felt most by the poor.

So, is the left’s response here just more of the same rich white cluelessness? The edgelords will have a field day…

Trump held nazi rally in aurora CO

Inside the rally: pictures of Venezuelan migrants.
Trump: "I will rescue Aurora and every town that has been invaded and conquered," Trump told the crowd. "We will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail or kick them out of our country.

The first thing the left can do is highlighting that having somewhere live is a necessity for life - and a fundamental human right. Then we have to address the misconception that having somewhere to live isn't a zero-sum game: i.e. that if you don't have somewhere to live it isn't because somebody else is occupying 'your' dwelling, but because successive govts haven't i) viewed housing as a human right, and ii) taken steps to address the availability and affordability gap. On that point, we then have to start talking about how rapidly increasing asset-wealth inequality, particularly since 2007/8 (and then accelerated during the pandemic), has transferred a huge amount of resources to the top of the income distribution, where people and companies with a surfeit of cash and/or borrowing power are acquiring the assets of the middle class and govts at a precipitous rate and then renting those assets back to them.

That sounds good. However, the US government does spend what seems like a lot to provide relief. Biden requested about 73 billion for HUD (Housing and Urban Development) and got close to 70. That's an increase of 8 billion over 2023. That money is to be spent:
to maintain all existing rental assistance while increasing efforts to reduce homelessness, connect people to both housing and health care, and remove barriers to housing opportunities and development, including unnecessary administrative burdens.
FY24 THUD Bill Summary
Final FY24 Spending Bill for HUD Programs Enacted

Still, only about 25 percent of those eligible for rental assistance will receive it!

Funding Limitations Create Widespread Unmet Need for Rental Assistance

How can there be so many people that need help paying rent? A lot of solutions focus on housing, but what about income? I don't know for sure, but it looks like a terrible time for many workers. Part-time is the default, and many potentially aren't earning a living wage (44 percent not paid a living wage).
Imagine that. I guess it's only coincidental that you'd already be the perfect citizen in the ideal world you're selling.

Same here. The majority of working-age benefits and assistance doesn't go to the unemployed but to people in work. Tax rebates for low earners subsidise businesses that pay poverty wages. Rent support schemes subsidise landlords. Govt schemes that help first-time buyers by matching their deposit subsidise institutional lenders, increasing their profits while reducing their exposure to risk. All this and more besides transfers resources from the govt to those operating at the top end of the income distribution.

Changes to the tax system since the 80s now sees top earners paying less tax as a proportion of their income than those at the bottom, while their assets incur no tax liability until they're sold - at which point they're taxed at a lower rate than income. The money that flows out of govts into society as spending has a quantifiable multiplying effect in the general economy, but those gains no longer come back to the govt, with interest, via the tax system - to be reinvested in public services, infrastructure, R&D etc - but are increasingly diverted and hoarded by the asset-rich. At the same time those very same people are the one's calling for further deregulation of the labour and housing markets, the privatisation of national assets, 'small government' etc.

When 63% of US workers say they couldn't meet an emergency bill of $500 the left needs to explain that the threat to ordinary working people's economic security and material well-being doesn't come from those walking across the border but from those taking private jets to their superyachts in the med for the weekend.

Trump takes stab at California. Yet, people had to be bribed to fill arena. Sure, followers. Or...it might be their first and last time? True fans? Then...
Supporters who were bused in to a Trump rally in the middle of nowhere at Coachella were left abandoned 6 miles from where their cars were parked when only a handful of buses were provided to return them. Also, allegedly, posts about it are being removed from X.
Many on social media are trying to make sense of what happened in Coachella. According to several attendees, rally organizers had promised transportation to and from nearby parking areas, but as the event ended, it became clear that there weren't enough buses to handle the large crowds.
In a since-deleted post on X, captured via screenshot from another user, one attendee posting from the rally location said that there were "apparently 60 [buses] employed for this event." They added that "all buses have been called off" and CHP (California Highway Patrol) had informed bus drivers to stop picking up attendees.

BREAKING: Kamala Harris abruptly stopped a town hall after just a few questions, then ordered Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” to be played while swaying awkwardly on stage alone for 39 minutes. — Now that I got Republicans’ attention. That was actually Donald Trump.

And he did that on stage with Kristi Noem there. He’s lucky she didn’t drive him out to a landfill and well…you know.

‘Mr. Trump had his staff fire up his campaign playlist, standing on the stage for about half an hour and swaying to songs as his crowd slowly dwindled.
He bobbed his head through the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.,” his usual closing song. He swayed soberly to Rufus Wainwright’s version of “Hallelujah,” watched a Sinead O’Connor video, rocked along to Elvis, watched the crowd during “Rich Men North of Richmond” and then, finally, left the stage to shake hands on his way out during one last song.’

I’m confident if O’Connor were around today she’d be having a cease and desist letter sent to him as well…

“Let’s not do any more questions. Let’s just listen to music. Let’s make it into a music. Who the hell wants to hear questions, right?” he said. For 39 minutes, Trump swayed, bopped — sometimes stopping to speak — as he turned the event into almost a living-room listening session of his favorite songs from his self-curated rally playlist."

More and more artists want Trump to stop using their music. They face a costly fight
