Is it over yet? :sigh:
It'll never be over. Evah!

Trump will declare victory this evening regardless. His votaries have infiltrated the election commissions of numerous swing counties and states and the counting will inevitably be disrupted - and probably subject to legal challenge, holding up certification which must be completed by 11 Dec. If states don't return their certificates to the Senate by 25 Dec the president of the Senate or the Archivist will ask the chief election officer of those states to send up the certificates they have withheld, and if they don't comply the matter falls to the Senate to decide what to do - and nobody really knows what that might mean in practice. One way or another the election has to be ratified by a joint session in Congress on 6 Jan at 1pm, but getting there is probably going to be a very rocky road.

In other words - it's going to be a complete shit show!

Yeah, not getting sucked in like last time. America is simply dead to me. I won't be reading any news pertaining to the US for the next four years.

We might need a new Trump dystopia topic
Elsewhere
The viability of NATO may also be in jeopardy.

Elon Musk, a raving white supremacist who is certifiably insane, is likely to have a major and influential role in the Trump administration.

RFK Jr, a believer in wild conspiracy theories, is likewise probably going to have a significant and malign influence on health policy.

Non-citizen immigrants will be targeted for deportation with little regard for their legal status. Those who are actually citizens will likely face institutionalized discrimination. As with the previous Trump administration, Customs and Border Protection will be emboldened to arbitrarily deny entry to anyone who even looks like they might be Muslim. I’m not making this up – this really happened many times during the previous Trump era.

I certainly understand the sentiment, but (!) is disengagement really a viable option, or even a useful personal strategy? I'm thinking that if we really don't want to see the fash prosper we may need to reconsider our own level of democratic participation. Clearly voting from a limited list of liberals hasn't lived up to either our own expectations or their promises.

On day 1
Taxes
Trump’s tax policies broadly tilt toward corporations and wealthier Americans. That’s mostly due to his promise to extend his 2017 tax overhaul, with a few notable changes that include lowering the corporate income tax rate to 15% from the current 21%. That also involves rolling back Democratic President Joe Biden’s income tax hikes on the wealthiest Americans and scrapping Inflation Reduction Act levies that finance energy measures intended to combat climate change.

He proposes tariffs of 10% to 20% on foreign goods — and in some speeches has mentioned even higher percentages.

Build homes that tornadoes and hurricanes wash away:
Trump promises to unleash housing construction by cutting regulations — though most construction rules come from state and local government. He also says he would end “frivolous litigation from the environmental extremists.”

In higher education, Trump proposes taking over accreditation processes for colleges, a move he describes as his “secret weapon” against the “Marxist Maniacs and lunatics” he says control higher education. Trump takes aim at higher education endowments, saying he will collect “billions and billions of dollars” from schools via “taxing, fining and suing excessively large private university endowments” at schools that do not comply with his edicts. That almost certainly would end up in protracted legal fights.
