yum ...we bought a breadmaker for sourdough but returned it unopened as looked like too much work for too little gain.

I've made a lot more bread without a machine. I was just hoping to generate some ideas for hoagie/sausage rolls.
Imagine that. I guess it's only coincidental that you'd already be the perfect citizen in the ideal world you're selling.

My eldest son, David, makes all their own bread - mostly sourdough, but others as well. It's bloody tasty!
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!
And my gin!

Re: What are you reading now? (Chapter 2)
This, as a book.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compartment_No._6
The Russian man keeps talking about wanting to fuck about every two days of the journey. One would maybe travel a week or two, then getting on with life. It seems an impossible task for him.
Ever run into a man obsessed with sex, boasting of it daily? I've seen such people in films but never ran into any who are occupied with sex all day.
I would think a normal person could do without sex or a substitute for a month. Maybe 2 months if the task was such that you were isolated etc.

What's the significance of him being Russian?

It's his country, she is the visitor. He is the stereotype Russian man, as we see in lierature, long before communism. Vodka, onions, the whole bit. The girl in the book only had to deal with a sophisticated university crowd before this.
The movie changes the train route to North. It goes East in the book.

I like my regions like I like my women. Stable, but with the potential to be quite disorderly.

Re: What are you reading now? (Chapter 2)
Ended up reading some science books. A couple have to do with toxic waste sites.
I'm unable to get anything very specific about farming these days. But from what I have gathered the farmer no longer owns the crop or animal. They are just borrowing the seed or piglet and raising it. The entire process is controlled by the Farm Bill. It tells how to raise your stuff. You have to use all the chemicals. You even have to use the amounts the seed producer tells. Otherwise you do not get crop insurance.
