Just for that. Here's more on how they water this town!

Hurrumph, a few years back I went to Leadville where you get your water as part of a conference on mine water.
I notice they say nothing about the mercury, uranium and lead content of the War-duh.
Any idea why that might be?

Doesn't it? I know there was already a town closer to the mountains, and there is actually creek that initially provided water, but if Palmer actually wanted to build something like London he should have build by a river. Perhaps, it was the only land he could afford.
Or maybe,,,

That's easy. It's utility department propaganda. But it does illustrate how far we have to go to get water, which was my intent in posting it.
Mining waste, and contaminants from military bases are a definite challenge for water quality.
I hope it was summer when you were in Leadville.

You are lucky Joe; one of the few. I and 17 million of us have had that for the last forty years. That is normal in this country.

Re: Science news of the day thread.
Sadly Scot, it's been a widespread problem for us too. In particular, the atrocities in West Virginia boggle the mind. They rip the tops off of mountains and dump the waste into the watersheds below.

Capitalism Joe. Not that pure socialism is the way out. Somewhere in between is the solution. It has to be.

I studied economics in college, and as best I can tell, the "free market" capitalism that our politicians and pundits blabber about is more religion than economic theory.
If the debacle in 2008 didn't dispel this notion, it's based in faith and not reason.

PFOS. Makes really good firefighting foam, and so all military airfields in the US and elsewhere have plenty in their groundwater from training on putting out avgas fires.Joe wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 4:05 pm

The groundwater in my county is salty, so even the creeks are salty. Our water comes from about 30 miles away from the Platte.Joe wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 3:38 pmDoesn't it? The city, a state capitol, is only here because of the railroad.

Re: Science news of the day thread.
The ground water, however, is not so salty it cannot be used for farming.

That's good thing. I remember when I lived in Texas, you could tell who was on city water and who was on well water. The well water smelled like old eggs from the sulfur content. It was okay to drink though.
