I don't understand what these implications may be. Maybe I'm just daft;l but could you expand a little on that?

Whenever I hear the term "Marxist academic" I reach for my Makarov.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Re: What are you reading now? (Chapter 2)
That certain aspects of our behaviour are influenced by genetic factors attributable to natural selection during hominid evolution. Note that I said "influenced" - clearly, childhood experiences, learning and socialisation are major factors as well, with complex interactions between the factors. Generally, sociologists and psychologists, and left-leaning academics in general, have tended to focus almost entirely on the latter, hence the name the "Blank Slate" model. Often, they have not just ignored evolution, but actively attacked any mention of it in connection with the human condition, possibly because of its inappropriate use by right-wing theorists in the past.
I'm not really so much interested in the political nature of the debate, as in looking for the best scientific explanatory model for human behaviour; ignoring millions of years of selective pressures in the past is rather ostrich like, IMO...

Simon Sebag-Montefiore's The Romanovs.
300 years of beheadings, conspiracies, insatiable lusts, rectal impalings and Princes dressed as chickens.
It's very good.

Re: What are you reading now? (Chapter 2)
I just got my mitts on two (French translation) collection of boxing stories by Robert E Howard... dangit One of them is dedicated to the character Sailor Steve Costigan, and does not cover half, or maybe even a third, of what Howard wrote on the character, and that's not even counting Costigan's alter ego Dennis Dorgan... and the other, I don't even know who it's about.
I knew Howard to be a prolific author in many genres, but damn, he had to love boxing to write that much on the subject.

the one by Barbara Koltuv? what's it about, the Amazon blurb did not even let me know if it was a novel or an analysis of the myth.

The shorter popular book on Monty Python. Barsanti et al. The idea is to read and not stop to see ”someting on the smart phone.” I even have a paper dictionary, the only Webster left in the house, on hand. I have learned what ”plinth” is.

Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss.
Experimental archaeologists go a bit Lord Of The Flies...
A slim, poetically written book featuring very toxic masculinity and some rabbit heads.
It's very good and by a woman!

A woman writer? Waste of time. Read Kipling or H. Rider Haggard, old boy, that's the stuff! King Solomon's Mines was a corker. Rollicking good read. None of that mushy female stuff.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
