Re: Incredibly Strange Music
Kate Bush is mainstream pop music. I loved her stuff but not the last stuff. People should realise when it is time to leave.

Strange is mentioned in the thread title not obscure. I agree she lost her edge two decades ago.Scot Dutchy wrote:Kate Bush is mainstream pop music. I loved her stuff but not the last stuff. People should realise when it is time to leave.

She took 20 years to finish her last album.

Re: Incredibly Strange Music
My ears finished up glued to the loudspeakers. Then I read the Wikipedia article about him which led to an article on his 43-tone scale and another about Just intonation. returning to Youtube I found a presentation of some of the instruments he created and then settled down listening to more of his music. Guess I'm fascinated.Brian Peacock wrote:

Re: Incredibly Strange Music
Presumably you mean the music of Indonesia's Java and Bali provinces. The resemblance is superficial in that it is also percussive. In terms of scaling (and therefore melody) they share nothing, and in rhythm very little.Scot Dutchy wrote:Very Indonesian.

Re: Incredibly Strange Music
Klezmer with a light topping of a few other musical styles is not "incredibly strange music", at least not in the case of this band. A fusion of different musical styles can result in exciting and strange offerings. Hazmat Modine fails in that endeavour, coming up with an uninspiring melange that evokes the texture of porridge instead.

Must agree. Sometimes in an effort to be different many things get lost. Here for instance its music.Hermit wrote: ↑Sun May 13, 2018 10:35 amKlezmer with a light topping of a few other musical styles is not "incredibly strange music", at least not in the case of this band. Why don't you guys post something incredibly strange to your liking? I am very curious, honestly.

Re: Incredibly Strange Music
Well here is one. It is called pibroch which is Celtic for lament. This one is called: Farewell to the Laird of Islay. It is only five minutes of an hour long piece of music. They have competitions playing this music. Very haunting and guaranteed to bring a tear to every Scotsman's eye.

Re: Incredibly Strange Music
Nice, but not exactly strange either. Scottish bagpipes, immediately recognizable.

Re: Incredibly Strange Music
The pibroch is an art in itself. Very few pipers can play it as it is very demanding. It is not played that much these days.
