This is currently at the top of my stack of summer reading, followed by the rest of the series. Can't get enough of Douglas Adams' humour.

I was looking forward to Dennett's "Freedom Evolves," hoping that it would give me new respect for the compatibilist position. (Oh heck, I would have been grateful to leave with even the tiniest scrap of respect for compatibilism.) Not only did his main arguments suck, but I had engineered having this particular atheist book club read it, and they all hated it too. I came in for some considerable ribbing for that. I tried to introduce myself as Jun Ishii, a first time visitor, but that didn't work; I couldn't shake the Albatross from around my neck. Fortunately, drawing on my experience in free will theory and philosophy of mind, I was able to spice up the conversation suitably to where people were expressing thanks for having had the experience by the end of the evening. (I also discovered that a genial acquaintance, a professor who teaches critical thinking and other topics at an Iowa university, is an even worse thinker than I expected. Positively dreadful hearing the crap coming out of his mouth. I guess that's why he teaches in Iowa.)
